he Copan Maya Foundation
was created in January, 2000 to support research and conservation of the
cultural and natural resources of Middle America. Its primary focus is
supporting educational, cultural and environmental projects in Copan,
Honduras and in the area occupied by the ancient Maya and their immediate
neighbors.
nspired and monitored
by world leaders in Middle American research, the Foundation is guided by
international advisors and supports only projects that offer community involvement
with a high level of regional sustainability.
he foundation board
and advisors believe that the collaboration with and the training of Central
Americans in all fields pertinent to the funded projects will ensure dedicated
stewardship of resources as well as the pertinence and longevity of this
foundations work. The Foundation will also support the diffusion
of the results obtained by its research education and conservation programs.
s a result of its
projects, the Foundation will seek to stimulate and sustain positive Pan-American
communicationand a foster a balance within the diverse contemporary peoples
of Middle America with respect to their rich cultural heritage and the
precious environment that surrounds them.
